The Sedona Public Library’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
Weekly Author Series: Friday, September 26, 2008, 6:00 pm, William Kent Krueger

As part of the 2008 50th Anniversary Sedona Public Library Celebration weekly Author Series, William Kent Krueger will be discussing his latest book, Red Knife, on Friday, September 26, 2008 at 6 pm at the library.  The program, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Si Birch Community Room.  Copies of Mr. Krueger’s book will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.

Krueger BookRed Knife - The Color of Blood: Violence Inside and Outside the Crime Genre
Using the text as a starting point, Krueger will discuss violence: the true incident of the Red Lake school shootings that inspired the novel, and his own ruminations on how the violent times in which we live are reflected in the crime genre.

Book Description:  Rural Minnesota erupts into gang violence following the drug-related death of an Aurora teen, and Corcoran O’Connor finds himself caught in the crossfire in the most compelling mystery yet from multiple prizewinner William Kent Krueger.

Red Knife explores the racial tensions and shocking violence of our times. In his most vividly heart-wrenching novel to date, Krueger incorporates all the elements readers have come to love about the Cork O’Connor series—the small-town Northwoods atmosphere, the integration of the Ojibwe culture, and the powerful suspense of a rugged landscape where the deep forests hold secrets and danger lurks in every shadow.

“Racial tensions fuel Krueger's outstanding ninth Cork O'Connor mystery… Simply and elegantly told, this sad story of loyalty and honor, corruption and hatred, hauntingly carves utterly convincing characters, both red and white, into the consciousness.”

Kruger Book

Raised in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon, William Kent Krueger briefly attended Stanford University--before being kicked out for radical activities.  After that, he logged timber, worked construction, tried his hand at free-lance journalism, and eventually ended up researching child development at the University of Minnesota.  He currently makes his living as a full-time author.  He’s been married for over 35 years to a marvelous woman who is an attorney.  He makes his home in St. Paul, a city he dearly loves.

Krueger writes a mystery series set in the north woods of Minnesota.  His protagonist is Cork O’Connor, the former sheriff of Tamarack County and a man of mixed heritage—part Irish and part Ojibwe.  His work has received a number of awards including the Minnesota Book Award, the Loft-McKnight Fiction Award, the Anthony Award, the Barry Award, and the Friends of American Writers Prize.  He does all his creative writing in a little St. Paul coffee shop whose identity he prefers to keep secret.
