Donate to the Sedona Public Library
Donate Books
We gladly accept donations of gently used books and more based on the guidelines listed below. Some items may be added to the Library’s collection, but the majority will be sold at one of our large book sales held every year.
What we would like to receive:
- Gently used hardcover and paperback books, fiction and non-fiction, for children and adults
- Antique or collectible books regardless of condition, including first editions and autographed copies
- Commercially recorded audio and video cassettes, CDs, and DVDs
- Magazines (particularly magazines for the current year, collectible issues, and magazines of local interest)
Please do not give us:
- National Geographic Magazines
- Arizona Highways Magazines
- Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
- School textbooks
- Travel guides or investing books older than 5 years
- Encyclopedias more than 20 years old
Donations can be dropped off at the library during regular hours.
Your donation is tax deductible. We are unable to assign a dollar value to your donation, but we are happy to give you an acknowledgement of receipt at the time of drop-off.
Commemorative Opportunities
Started in 1958 by volunteers, the Sedona Public Library has been fortunate to receive generous support from Sedona residents and visitors. Constructing Sedona Public Library’s current building truly was a community effort that began in 1986 when Sedona Resident Ethel M. Low donated $326,000 to purchase land for the new building. By 1991 fund-raising efforts raised enough money to begin construction on the 23,000 square foot building. Ground-breaking ceremonies were held on October 2, 1991. During the 2-1/2 year construction process, much of the materials and labor were donated by local businesses and contractors. The doors of the new Library were opened to the public on June 6, 1994.
Today, opportunities remain for Sedona citizens to leave their names on the Library. Here are a few possibilities for you to choose from:

Donations
Private donations also help the Library grow to serve community needs. Although the City of Sedona and both Coconino Yavapai Counties provide funding for regular operations (staff salaries and benefits, utilities, administrative costs), all assets are funded by private donations. Assets include our collection of books, audio tapes, CDs, videos DVDs; our land and buildings; and shelving.
Donations may be unrestricted or restricted for a certain use. Examples of restricted donations include funds designated:
- for additions to the collection;
- to fund staff opportunities for training and development that cannot be supported by our regular operating budget;
- to expand services in a particular area, such as the Children’s Room, Young Adult Section, or the Village Service Center;
- to add to or replace buildings.
Since the Library is a 501(c)3 organization, donations are tax deductible.
